In areas of South America where there is the lowest rate of nutrition, the children are allowed to drink yerba mate as a food supplement and even the popular gauchos of Argentina call it as their “liquid vegetable”.

Side Effects of Yerba Mate

For pregnant women yerba mate is not recommended since low-weight, premature births, birth defects and neonatal withdrawal syndrome has been observed. The drinkers may experience loose stools when they consume yerba mate for the first time due to a high level of caffeine but this usually isn’t anything to worry about and should stop once your body becomes habitual to it.
